Our new school year continues to unfold with Back-to-School Picnics held in four locations across the state today! The Springfield site staff took a couple of minutes out from their preparations for families to pose for a picture (see below). Staff and students got a chance to meet each other face-to-face and families had a chance to get to know one another as well as get curriculum supplies for the school year. More pictures will be posted on our Facebook page and on our Twitter feed, as well as this web site. Stay tuned!
Bright Beginning Programs – our next opportunity to gather and learn more about what’s happening at GCVS!
The Department of Student Services is hosting a series of Bright Beginnings Programs over the next few weeks. These sessions will be sprinkled across the state and are sponsored by our Title I Program. Please see the link to the flyer below for dates, times, and locations.
Please let us know if you are planning to attend and at which site you will be attending by clicking on the link to this survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2JPTB5L
We need your responses by Monday, September 11th. It is important that you let us know in advance that you are attending as we want to make sure we are ready for you at these sites. If you are bringing a computer or tablet device, it is a good idea to make sure it is fully charged so you will have enough power to last for the session! We hope many of you will plan to join us for learning more about how to navigate our new platforms and programs!
GCVS School Council to be Formed
As a public school in Massachusetts, GCVS will be forming a school council this year. The Council will have equal representation of parents/guardians and teachers, administrators of the school, a student representative, and a community member with no children in the school.
Our goal at GCVS will be to one have teacher and one parent/guardian representative from each grade cluster: elementary (grades K-5), middle school (6-8), and high school (9-12). Additionally, we will have a high school student on the Council, along with a community representative. The School Council will provide input into the educational goals for the school, consistent with educational policies and statewide student performance standards; and will assist the Executive Director in identifying the educational needs of students attending the school; and reviewing the budget as part of the Board of Trustees’ budget process.
We are looking for interested parents/guardians and a high school student to serve on the council. Meetings will be held in our office, but will also be available to council members through our Zoom meeting client so you can participate from home. Interested persons should send a letter of interest, addressed to Dr. Judith Houle, Executive Director. You can send it via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by US Mail to Massachusetts Virtual Academy at Greenfield Commonwealth Virtual School, 278 Main Street, Suite 205, Greenfield, MA 01301. The deadline to submit a letter of interest is Monday, September 18, 2017.
Have a great weekend! Dr. Judith Houle, Executive Director
