On Friday, June 9th, we graduated 25 seniors who are heading to their lifelong pursuits of college and career. The ceremony, held at Greenfield Middle School, celebrated their accomplishments and culminated in that special moment where each student received his/her diploma. For pictures and more information on our grads, check out our graduation website: http://www.mavagrads.com/. Congratulations to the Class of 2017 and best wishes for a bright and successful future!

Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 14th, is the last day of school for the rest of the students. We are having an all-school picnic at Dean Park in Shrewsbury. Families are encouraged to bring your picnic lunch with you. Our staff have a lot of fun activities planned for the children and we look forward to seeing everyone! Families are also reminded that tomorrow is the last day to get work and assignments completed and turned in for grading. Once grades are finalized, report cards will be mailed home during the last week of June.

I also want to update you on our progress this past week in moving to our new learning platform. We submitted our request for approval of the change by the state department and we hope to hear back very soon. We have been in constant communication with them over this change, so we are looking forward to seeing a positive result in the near future. As we move forward over the summer months, this is a reminder to make sure that your personal email is current within the K12 system by tomorrow, Wednesday, June 14th, as your personal emails will be our primary mode of communication with you during the summer. We will be initiating a transfer of all student information from the K12 system to our own student information system very soon, so this is an important step.

Our teachers will be coming to Greenfield next week for their first training on new systems. We are also working on the process to purchase new computers for distribution to families who request them. Please remember that it is important to return your K12 computer as soon as you are issued return labels by K12. As soon as our new computers are purchased, we will be replacing the ones you had with ones that will work with our new systems. Just a reminder that our new learning platform, Canvas, will work with any device, anywhere. So if you have a computer at home, or a tablet or other mobile device, it will work with the system.

If you are planning to reregister your student for next year and were not able to complete the process through K12, please click on the “Enrollment” link on this web site. You will find complete instructions for enrolling your student for next year and a list of documents and procedure to get them to us that we will need. Thank you for taking the time to make sure your student’s records are complete for the 2017-18 school year.

The Board of Trustees approved the budget for next year at their meeting last night. The budget plan includes several new teachers, allowing us to reduce class sizes and offer more options to our students, while we build a stronger school! We have a great team of teachers and other educational professionals ready to teach our students next year, in partnership with our Learning Coaches. We look forward to adding to their number in the coming days.

So as we wish everyone a happy summer, we will be very busy here at MAVA getting ready for the new school year!
