Greenfield Commonwealth Virtual School has launched a first-of-its-kind dual enrollment program that is both 100% online and entirely tuition- and fee-free for Massachusetts high school students. This is a partnership with Greenfield Community College in Greenfield, Massachusetts.

“Our dual enrollment program breaks down barriers to higher education. In a traditional program, the number of college credits high school students can earn is limited by their ability to pay,” said Dr. Salah Khelfaoui, Executive Director of GCVS. “Together with GCC, we’re giving students across the state access to college courses without any financial burden.”

The GCVS/GCC online dual enrollment program is open to every high school student who is a resident of Massachusetts. GCVS is a public school of choice that any student in Massachusetts can enroll in with no out-of-pocket tuition costs. GCVS students pay nothing additional for the dual enrollment program, and books and materials are also supplied.

Students may enroll in up to 10 courses per year for two years, all online. Students need to meet the specific class requirements—which may mean passing a placement test, prior completion of specific college-level courses, or performance on AP exams.

Get a headstart with a no-cost associate’s degree

“The dual enrollment program is entirely online, making it accessible to students everywhere in the state,” said Greg Runyan, Director of Learning and Teaching at GCVS. “The college credits earned are fully accredited and can be used at Greenfield Community College or transferred to another school. Students even have the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree while getting their high school diploma.”

GCVS dual enrollment students who complete college-level courses receive college credit and credit that can be used to satisfy high school graduation requirements. These credits can be applied toward an Associate’s Degree at Greenfield Community College (while in high school or after graduation). They may also be eligible as transfer credit to another college or university.

“The classes and number of credits available make it possible for a motivated student to earn their associate’s degree for free,” said Khelfaoui. “In an era of rising higher education costs, this opens the door to higher education in Massachusetts wider than it’s ever been before.”

Dual enrollment students follow the same grading policies that all Greenfield Community College students follow, and GCC gives our GCVS dual enrollment students access to student support students. In addition, GCVS dual enrollment students can participate fully in the college’s co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
