Fall has finally arrived in New England! Temperatures are reflecting an autumn chill and our foliage is at its most beautiful!

PD Day on October 19th

Our teachers will be engaging in some professional development on Friday, October 19th, so there will be no school for students on that day. It’s a great time to get caught up on missing assignments! There are only 10 more days to the first quarter of school, so here’s an opportunity to finish strong.

Board of Trustees Vacancy

The GCVS Board of Trustees voted on Monday, October 15th, to accept the resignation of Dr. Christina Powell as a Board member. Dr. Powell served as a Board member for several years and we are grateful to her for her service. In her role, she served as a parent representative of students attending GCVS. The Board of Trustees Bylaws state that one member must be a parent of current students at GCVS, so they are looking for interested parents to fill the vacancy. The commitment is one Board meeting per month and possibly serving on a Board subcommittee meeting as needed between regular Board meetings. Unless a holiday gets in the way, the Board meets on the second Monday of the month.

If you would like to know more about serving on the Board of Trustees, feel free to call Dr. Houle at 413.475.3879. If you would like to be considered as the parent representative to the Board, please send a letter of interest and a current resume to Dr. Judith Houle, Executive Director, Greenfield Commonwealth Virtual School, 238 Main Street, 3rd Floor, Greenfield, MA 01301 by November 5, 2018. The Board will meet again on Monday, November 19th, and will consider interested applicants at that meeting.

School Council

Our GCVS School Council will be starting again in the next couple of weeks. We are looking for one educator per grade group (K-5, 6-8, 9-12), 3 parents (preferably representing each grade group), and 1-2 student representatives. If you would like to serve on our school council, please send a message to Dr. Houle through Canvas by November 5, 2018.

Serving on the Board of Trustees or School Council is a great way to play a more active role in the life of our school!
