Student Spotlight: Brooke Naylor
High school student represents GCVS at poetry semi-finals
Brooke Naylor, a GCVS high school student, competed in the Poetry Out Loud Regional Semi-Finals on March 3, 2019. Poetry Out Loud is a national competition in which students memorize and perform the poetry on stage. Brooke recited incredible performances of Cartoon Physics, Part 1 by Nick Flynn and Sanctuary by Jean Valentine, and competed against some of the best student performers in the area.
Her coach, GCVS high school English teacher Christine Ashton said: “She worked extremely hard and her performances were amazing! She really put her whole heart into her recitations.”
Brooke has only been reciting poetry for a short time, and while this year she did not advance to the state finals, Brooke did advance to the Massachusetts state finals held in Boston last year, one of just 25 students from across the state to do so.
Congratulations to Brook for all of her hard work!
