To answer some of your questions quickly, we’ve compiled a list of those most frequently asked by GCVS parents. Be sure to read more throughout this website so you’re well-informed and prepared to support your child through a successful educational journey.

Is GCVS a public school for all students in Massachusetts?

GCVS is a fully-accredited public school for all residents living in Massachusetts and reports to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

Is there tuition?

We are a public school, free of charge for Massachusetts residents.

Do you accept students from out of state with paid tuition?

Per state regulations, we cannot enroll students from outside of Massachusetts or collect tuition.

Are MCAS required?

Students take the English language arts and mathematics MCAS tests in the spring. Grades 5 and 8 take science MCAS, and grade 8 also has a civics MCAS. High school students take biology MCAS in June of the year they complete the biology course.

Do you enroll during the school year?

Yes, we enroll throughout the school year as long as we have openings.

Does GCVS support students with IEP or 504s?

GCVS is a public school in Massachusetts; our Special Education Department supports students with IEPs and 504s.

Are there field trips/in-person meet-ups?

We organize in-person meet-ups and field trips across Massachusetts, as well as virtual museum tours that offer engaging and educational experiences.

How many students are there per class/grade?

Class size varies according to grade level.

Can students participate in sports/activities through their town schools and/or recreational sports/activities?

Yes, students may participate in sports/activities in their home district, provided they have permission from their home district.

Do GCVS students participate in “specials” (e.g., art, music, and PE)?

Yes, students must attend extracurricular classes per Massachusetts public school standards.

Do GCVS students receive a high school diploma?

GCVS is a fully-accredited public school in Massachusetts; all students receive a diploma at graduation.

Does GCVS follow brick-and-mortar school calendars?

Yes, GCVS students have scheduled breaks in December, February, April, and all state holidays. Being a virtual school, we do not have snow days!
