LC Connection Learning Coach Jim Sullivan Class of 2029

My son Zachary began GCVS in grade 5. During the pandemic, we discovered online learning worked really well for our son, and we were thrilled to find a public school environment where technology was being leveraged in an effective and engaging way.

The Special Education Department has been incredibly instrumental in setting Zachary up for success. Working as a team, we were able to create an IEP that allows Zachary to be supported and challenged enough to be more independent. The progress has been phenomenal. An important part of my role as a Learning Coach has been knowing every detail of his learning plan and communicating what works and doesn’t work when it is applied.

As a learning coach, I have learned that communication is key. Zachary and I regularly check and monitor grade books for assignments. Now that he is in high school, Zachary is responsible for reaching out to his teachers for missed work due to absence or for any issues he might be having, and I only follow up if necessary. Having recorded classes allows me insight into his experience when necessary, and they are a great asset for making up missed work due to absence.

I am so happy we have found this school.
